SPIKES

Polycarbonate Bird Spikes — SS304 Spike Needles, Flexible PC Base
Polycarbonate bird spikes solve a problem that pure stainless steel systems cannot — installation on curved, uneven or architecturally sensitive surfaces where a rigid metal base would not conform or would be visually unacceptable.
The spike needles are SS304 stainless steel — providing the same deterrent effectiveness and weather resistance as our full stainless system. The base is flexible polycarbonate — transparent, lightweight, able to flex around pipes, curved ledges and uneven surfaces, and far less visible from ground level than a metal base.
We manufacture polycarbonate bird spikes at our ISO 9001:2015 certified factory in Gurgaon, India, supplying pest control distributors, construction companies and building product importers across 14 countries.
When to Choose Polycarbonate Over Stainless Steel Base
The choice between a polycarbonate base and a stainless steel base comes down to three factors: surface type, visual requirements and budget.
Choose polycarbonate base when:
• The surface is curved or uneven — pipes, rounded parapets, barrel vaults, irregular ledges. The PC base flexes to conform; a rigid SS base cannot.
• Appearance matters — heritage buildings, retail facades, glass surfaces, residential properties. The translucent PC base is significantly less visible than a stainless steel strip from ground level.
• The surface cannot be drilled — PC base bonds well to glass, ceramic and polished surfaces where screw fixing into the surface itself is not possible.
• Budget is a consideration — PC base systems are lower cost than full SS304 construction while maintaining SS304 spike effectiveness.
Choose SS304 base when:
• Maximum durability is required — industrial buildings, warehouses, infrastructure
• The installation is permanent and long-term maintenance is not planned
• High-wind locations where base rigidity is an advantage
• The surface is flat masonry, concrete or metal — where the rigidity of SS base is not a disadvantage
Interlocking Base Design
Each base strip has precision-formed male and female ends. Strips interlock end-to-end for seamless joins — no gaps in coverage, no visible joint. This allows any required length to be covered using standard 500mm and 1000mm strips without cutting or overlap.
The interlocking system also maintains alignment across the full run, which is important on long parapets and wide beams where alignment drift causes gaps that birds exploit.
Installation
Adhesive fixing
The flexible PC base bonds to most surfaces using construction-grade silicone or bird spike adhesive. Clean and dry the surface before applying. The flexibility of the base allows it to conform to slight curves and irregularities without gaps. Allow 24 hours cure time before the system is exposed to bird pressure.
Screw fixing
Pre-drilled holes in the base allow screw fixing for more permanent installations. Recommended for flat surfaces and high-wind locations. The PC base is flexible enough to accommodate minor surface curves even when screw-fixed.
Interlocking design
Base strips interlock end-to-end using male and female connector ends — the same system as our SS base strips. No gaps in coverage at joins. Strips can be cut with scissors or a sharp blade to fit specific lengths.
Applications
-
Heritage and listed buildings — translucent base is far less visually intrusive than metal
-
Retail facades, shop fronts and commercial property — aesthetics matter to building owners
-
Residential buildings — less visible to neighbours and passers-by
-
Glass and glazed surfaces — flexible base bonds well, no drilling required
-
Curved architectural features — the flexibility of PC base is the key advantage here
-
Pipes, conduits and cylindrical structures — wraps around curved profiles
-
Window sills and narrow ledges — 500mm strips are easy to cut to exact length
-
Garden walls and boundary features — low visual impact preferred
Which Bird Species Are Deterred
Bird spike effectiveness depends on the spike opening width relative to the bird's body width.
• Pigeons — the most common target species. 140mm opening at 80 spikes/m is the standard specification.
• Seagulls and large birds — larger body, wider stance. Use 105mm opening at 66 spikes/m.
• Crows and corvids — similar sizing to pigeons. Standard 140mm opening is effective.
• Smaller birds (sparrows, starlings, mynas) — these land in smaller spaces. For small birds, the PerchGuard tension wire system or netting is more effective than spikes.

Long-term reliability
That’s exactly what we focus on.
Frequently asked Questions
Are the spikes on the PC system the same as the SS system?
Yes. Both systems use SS304 stainless steel spike needles. The difference is only the base material — stainless steel in the SS system, polycarbonate in the PC system. The deterrent effectiveness of the spike needles is identical.
Will the polycarbonate base crack or discolour outdoors?
Polycarbonate is UV-resistant and designed for outdoor use. It does not become brittle or discolour under normal UV exposure. It will withstand temperature extremes, rain, and UV radiation for many years of outdoor service.
Can I install PC bird spikes on a curved surface?
Yes — this is one of the primary advantages of the polycarbonate base. The base flexes sufficiently to conform to pipes, curved parapets and barrel vaults where a rigid metal base would leave gaps. The flexibility also makes it easier to cut and fit around corners and irregular shapes.
How do I choose between SS base and PC base?
Choose SS base for industrial, high-wind or long-term permanent installations on flat surfaces where durability is the priority. Choose PC base for heritage buildings, architectural features, curved surfaces, or applications where the lower visual profile of a translucent base is important. Both use SS304 spike needles and provide the same bird deterrence.
Do you export?
Yes. We export to 14 countries. Polycarbonate bird spike systems are packed in corrugated cartons suitable for sea freight. We handle all export documentation.
