SPRINGS

Torsion Springs Manufacturer for Industrial & Agricultural Applications
Custom torsion springs designed for consistent torque performance, precise leg geometry and long service life.
At Super Springs, we work with engineers and procurement teams who need reliable rotational force in their assemblies — from small single torsion springs for consumer products to heavy-duty double torsion springs for agricultural cultivators.
We manufacture single and double torsion springs tailored to your exact torque, leg length, leg angle and wire diameter requirements
What Are Torsion Springs
Torsion springs are helical springs that store energy when twisted or rotated. Unlike compression and extension springs which work along a linear axis, torsion springs exert a rotational force — they resist angular deflection and return to their original position when the load is released.
They have two legs extending from the coil body. When one or both legs are deflected, the spring stores energy and exerts torque in the opposite direction. The coils wind tighter as the spring deflects.
Key Torsion Spring Design Parameters
A well-designed extension spring depends on multiple factors. We work closely with your design inputs to ensure performance is predictable and repeatable.
Key extension spring design parameters include:
• Wire diameter (d)
• Outer diameter of coil body (OD)
• Number of active coils (N)
• Leg length 1 (L1) — first leg extending from the coil
• Leg length 2 (L2) — second leg extending from the coil
• Leg angle — the angle between L1 and L2 in the unloaded state
• Direction of wind — left-hand or right-hand helix
• Torque at a specified angular deflection
• Angular spring rate (N·mm per degree)

Single vs Double Torsion Springs
Single torsion springs
A single torsion spring has one coil body with two legs — one at each end. It is the most common torsion spring configuration. Used in automotive hinges, furniture recliners, door closers, safety mechanisms, clip mechanisms and a wide range of consumer and industrial applications.
Double torsion springs
A double torsion spring has two coil bodies wound in opposite directions and connected at the centre. This provides a higher torque output and symmetrical loading compared to a single torsion spring of the same wire diameter.
Double torsion springs are the standard configuration for agricultural cultivator tines, harrow teeth and heavy mechanical assemblies that require balanced force from both sides.
When specifying a double torsion spring, additionally provide: the width between the two coil bodies, and confirm the direction of wind for each coil (typically one left-hand and one right-hand).
Materials Used
Material selection determines the spring's strength, fatigue life and suitability for the operating environment.
We manufacture torsion springs in:
• Spring Steel SM/DM (medium carbon) — general purpose indoor industrial applications
• Spring Steel SH/DH (high carbon) — high load, agricultural equipment, outdoor and high cycle applications
• Stainless Steel SS304 — corrosion resistant, suitable for outdoor, food contact and humid environments
• Stainless Steel SS316 — for aggressive corrosive environments
• Music Wire (EN 10270-1) — high strength for precision and instrument applications
• Oil Tempered Wire (EN 10270-2) — for dynamic and heavy-duty applications
For agricultural double torsion springs, SH/DH spring steel is the standard grade — it provides the tensile strength and fatigue resistance required for field conditions. For outdoor installations without protective coating, SS304 is recommended.

Wire Grades and Customisation — Manufactured in India
Our torsion springs are manufactured at our factory in Gurgaon, India in spring steel grades SM/DM and SH/DH, along with SS304 stainless steel for corrosive or outdoor applications.
To order a custom torsion spring, provide: wire diameter (d), outer diameter (OD), number of coils (N), leg length L1 and L2, leg angle, direction of wind and torque at a specified angular deflection — or simply send a drawing or sample.
For double torsion springs, also provide the width between the two coil bodies. We supply automotive, agricultural, industrial machinery, furniture and consumer product sectors. 40+ years of manufacturing. ISO 9001:2015 certified. Exporting to 14 countries
Applications
Torsion springs are used across a wide range of industries where controlled rotation or angular return is required:
• Agricultural equipment — cultivator tines, harrow teeth, seeder mechanisms (double torsion)
• Automotive — door hinges, boot lids, glove box mechanisms, seat recliners
• Furniture — recliner chairs, folding mechanisms, lid hinges
• Safety and protective gear — helmet locking mechanisms, visor return springs
• Industrial machinery — door closers, access panel return mechanisms
• Consumer products — clothespeg-type clamps, tool clips, stationery mechanisms
• Electrical and electronic assemblies — switch return mechanisms, instrument springs
Each application has its own torque, leg geometry and cycle life requirements — and the design must reflect that.
Surface Treatments
Surface treatment provides corrosion protection and in some applications improves fatigue life.
• Zinc white plating — standard finish for indoor and mild outdoor applications
• Zinc black — same protection with a black appearance
• Powder coating — for colour matching and enhanced outdoor protection
• Passivation — for stainless steel springs, enhances corrosion resistance
• Shot peening — improves fatigue life for high-cycle applications
• No coating — for lubricated or internally protected assemblies
For agricultural applications exposed to soil, moisture and fertilisers, zinc white plating is the standard recommendation for spring steel grades.
Custom Torsion Springs
Most torsion spring applications require customisation — and that is where we focus.
We support:
• Manufacturing to drawing — any format including PDF, DXF, STEP or hand sketch
• Design-based requirements — provide torque, angular deflection and space constraints
• Sample replication — send a physical sample and we measure and replicate it
• Prototyping and development — low MOQ for new product development
• OEM supply — consistent bulk production for ongoing programmes
• Double torsion springs for agricultural OEM customers — a speciality product at Super Springs
The goal is not just to make springs, but to ensure they perform reliably in your application.
The angular spring rate (kt) of a torsion spring is calculated using:
kt = Ed⁴ / 10.8DN
Where:
• E = Young's modulus of the wire material (206,000 MPa for spring steel, 193,000 MPa for SS304)
• d = wire diameter
• D = mean coil diameter (OD minus wire diameter)
• N = number of active coils
The result is the angular spring rate in N·mm per degree. Multiply by the angular deflection in degrees to get the torque at that angle.
You can use our Spring Rate Calculator — Torsion tab for quick estimation during the design stage.
Over time, we’ve realised that most customers are not looking for a “vendor” — they’re looking for a dependable manufacturing partner.
What matters to them:
-
Consistency across batches
-
Predictable performance
-
Clear communication
-
Long-term reliability
That’s exactly what we focus on.
Frequently asked Questions
